Question
hello ma'am, may i know why horses feel relaxed and turn their ears in V shape when we gently stroke on their throat latch? do tell me why should we talk softly and in low peak while working with horses? do horses sense all these?

Answer
Hello Rohit,

Horses definitely sense the energy of the person handling it.

Remember that they are prey animals, and are usually naturally timid and anxious about their welfare.

I just taught a new horse today that I had to use different energy depending on what the horse was doing. When I first "met" her, she had her ears back and was grumpy. She did not know me, and her owner had just gotten her out of the pasture away from the herd, so she had reason.
I spoke softly and in a positive voice and rubbed her withers and let her sniff my hand, (palm down).

The client took her iome grooming her and tacking (Holly) up, and then we started working her.
It was evident that we needed to do ground work with her to get her more supple and able to correctly carry her rider's weight. When I asked her to move with a bit more impulsion on the lunge line, she pinned her ears back, gave me a really dirty look, and threatened to turn her haunches to me. (It was really quite funny...SUCH a diry look)...) But she is not allowed to threaten so I gave her a sharp AHH AHH with my voice, and just LIGHTLY TOUCHED her with the lash of the lunge whip. ( not hard at all), and asked her to trot again.

When she did I immediately told her what a "good girl" she was. Throughout the session, she just got better and better. That is what tells you that you are on the right track....
that the horse gets better. If it does not you have to look for YOU to see what YOU are doing wrong...
