Question
hiya i have 2 species of turtles im sure one is a missippi map turtle and the other is a yellow bellied slider. both have started getting pink patches on the underneath of their shells, they are now quite pink! i was just wondering what this could be and if you could help me. i have just recently lost one after finding him on his back.

Answer
Pinkness in the shell is usually a sign of a blood infection, but can also be a form of shell rot.

Blood infections are a vet issue- there is little you can do about it at home.

Pink forms of shell rot can be tough to treat but you can try this formula: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/medshell.htm
