QuestionJust bought a baby and was wondering if VITA SAND is a bad living habitat
AnswerVita Sand is a good product by a good company.
The only issues with sand are:
Cleanliness- sand is hard to keep clean and Vita Sand can become expensive to replace.
Ingestion- sand tends to stick to food and is eaten. Not a problem with small amounts of sand in big animals, but MAYBE an issue with small animals.
Other options- if you search the net, you'll see a lot of opinions and a lot of reasons people like what they like. You might want to evaluate pea-sized gravel, rabbit chow, rubber matting, corrugated cardboard, and sop on as possibilities.
DO avoid soil (non-sterile soil can cause disease, sterile soil is expensive and hard to clean as well), newspaper (too slick for babies to walk on correctly- they will grow deformed), and gritty rocky/hard stuff.
