Question
Hello! My name is Steven. I am ten years old. I am very smart, and would like to be a vetrenarian when I grow up. A little while ago, a turtle laid eggs on the playground. After school, I rode my bike there and retrieved the eggs. There were nine. The nest was underground and the turtle was large. She ran off before covering her nest. We think she might not have been done laying her eggs. I took them home and put them in a container with dirt and put them on my windowsill. Unfortunatley, time passed and eight eggs died. Some of the evil Jadon ( little bro ) some because the embryo died and the eggs collappsed. I then recognized that I shouldve let nature run it's course. Too late. I was just so worried. I mean seriously it was in the middle of a segmet of my playground. Anyways, I need some help about this. How should I treat them? How can I tell they're fertile? How long does it take for the egg to hatch? If it does, will it live? It's on the right side, I'm sure of it. Please answer soon. Anybody who wants to say anything, email me at

Answer
Hi Steven- Im so glad to hear you want to be a vet that is great! I hope you go to school for exotics like turtles because we need  more vets that will do that.

When a turtle lays her eggs, she has searched for the spot she feels is perfect.
The playground area, Id say wasnt the smartest place either.
When you removed the eggs dod you turn them t all.
When a person removes eggs from  nature there are proceedures to do so. One is you mark the top of the egg and keep it in that position.  If the eggs were rotated at all, and were fertile, then the baby can drown. This causes the baby to die.

Id need to know what type turtle to give you an hatching time.
