Question
Hi really after some advice we have 2 horsfield, and they are about 2 years old, i notived today that one of them seemed to have a bit of dried blood on their shell. She doesnt seem bothered by it at all and the other one is fine. gave her a bath in just warm water and the mark is not coming off, its not bleeding that i can see, it just sort of appeared over night. Just wondering if you have any idea what this could be and if there is anthing i can do to help

Answer
Hi Abigail,

It's a little hard to say without seeing it.  She might have gotten a slight injury somehow, and as long as the area doesn't spread and she doesn't seem ill (lethargic or lost appetite, etc.) I wouldn't be too concerned about it.  Check her over carefully and make sure there are no other areas, especially on her plastron (underside), and no areas where the shell seems soft or changed.  Also look for any areas that are pinkish or where it looks like there may be bleeding under the shell.  That would be a sign of septicemia, and would require an immediate vet visit.  Otherwise, I think you can just leave it alone and it should heal up eventually.
