Snake Tank Thing

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I recently acquired my sister's snake (she couldn't care for it so I am) and we got a reptile thermometer and it says the temperature is too hot (20C or 80F). Is that right? If so, how do I cool the thing down? I use cool water for the humidity but what else do I do?

ANSWER: HI Megan
I would need to know what type of snake you have.  Normally, 80F is NOT too hot at all for a snake during the day.  Do you use an under the tank heating pad?  Snakes need to have a "Cool Side" in their tank to retreat too when needed.  Let me know what type of snake you have so I can give you an exact temperature :-)

QUESTION: It's actually a milksnake. I know that's not your area of expertise but I just can't have the thing die. I turned off the heating pad. Should I be turning it back on and moving it over to one side? Behind the styrofoam is where she likes to stay. Is that good? I don't turn on any lights because my room where she is located gets alot of sun. I do have a book on snakes I just haven't gotten to reading it yet (have a work hand book that is painfully long). What about humidity? Where should that be at? Should I be feeding her in the tank thing or in a container?

Answer
Hi Megan
I am giving you a great site that will answer all your questions.  Just copy and paste into your web browser window.  You will need to turn your heat back on and move it to one side of the tank so there is a cool side to escape to and regulate their body temperature.
