telling the sex and eats

my friend and i recently adopted a red rat snake and we were wondering how we can figure out whether he is a male or female. he is about two and a half feet long. and we were wondering what to feed him because we got him from a friend and they forgot to mention what to feed him. so do we just feed him mice or what? thank you and have a great day.

   Send my a picture of his tail and I can give you about an 80% guess on his / her sex. It is hard to tell unless you experienced or take them to an exotic vet. Feed him frozen / thawed rats or mice not bigger than the diameter of his body. I strongly suggest that you google "red rat snake care sheet". This will tell you all you need to know about housing and caring for the snake.
