hey andrew

im just about to get a ball python for my first snake and ive been some research about them and i was wondering how i maintain the humidity at the right level in the tank and whats the best way of heating?

i was also wondering where's the best place to buy one
i live in australia, victoria if that helps

Hi Joel,

Here in england we dont need to monitor the humidity too much because its usually quite high. its best to keep the humidity at around 60-80 percent to ensure that your snake will shed properly and wont get respiratory infections. the best way of doing this is with a light spray of water when the humidity drops. spraying maybe once or twice a day. you can get humidity guages at most pet shops.

the temperature in the tank is the most important factor in your snake's environment and the temperature should be kept at aroun 82-84F with a hotspot of no more than 95F. the best way of acheiving this is by using a light bulb attatched to a thermostat. its best not to use any under tank heating as this can cause scale rot in ball pythons.
