snake digesting

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I was reading some past answers and have a question, If a snake is not digesting (about 48 hours after feeding) and stays for a long time on the cool side it would be a problem or not?
Another thing is that after some the research for what paint to use (which you helped me on) for the marine plywood bottom of the Boa cage, the salesman I usually buy wood from told me I could cover the bottom with Formica and then I seal all the corners with aquarium silicone not having the problem with paint fumes, the snake wastes that bubble the paint and also will be easy to clean, I found this is the best Idea to do (also I saw some reptile sites and saw that it is used in snake cages), what do you think about Formica bottoms?

Thanks for your continuous help Eric

ANSWER: Hey Jonathan,

That is a great idea. It will be real easy to clean. One problem I might see is the silicone. It will eventually pull up and allow for waste to get underneath it. This can cause mold to grow. It is great if you watch it and maybe once a year strip it and then redo it.

Your snake knows what it needs for digestion. They will move around allot to adjust their internal temps.

When you do decide to upgrade you should look at Vision Cages. They are sturdy and made completley out of a hard plastic except for the glass sliding doors that have locks for them. The fact that they are made of plastic makes them very light in weight and easy to move around.

QUESTION: Ok so I will pay attention on the silicone when I'll be cleaning it. Yes they are wonderful I saw them because you gave me the site an other time. The problem might be because of shipping because large items may not be available for international shipping and if the customs fees are too expensive as I don't live in the US. In the vision cage  72" W x 36" D x 18" H an adult Boa would be ok for his/her entire life? because if there are no problems of shipping and customs fees maybe I would go for that one in future.

Answer
Hey Jonathan,

I guess I did not know you lived outside the US. There could be something you could do to keep from having to pay all the exporting fees. I would think that there are local companies that can make a cage like this for you. All you would need to do is tell them the size and how thick you would like the plastic to be. The other parts like the glass can be purchased at a glass shop cut for you by them and they will even have the track you need for the glass. You might price compare to see which is cheaper.

Anyway good luck with everything and I wish you and your snake the best life possible.
