Question
QUESTION: I purchased a columbian black and white tegu from pet depot in cullman alabama, im not sure if she was wildcaught or captive bred, shes doing extremely well, she eats perfectly, but she isn't as docile as I would like compared to the argentine black and white. The store is checking around for an argentine but Im worried about their honesty, and the health of the tegu. If you know anything about this what would your suggestion be?

ANSWER: Hello Samantha,

That is correct normally, the Columbian black and white tegu is not as friendly as the Argentine black and white tegu.
Are you planning on keeping your Columbian?  Are you able to handle her at all?
If it is too wild, then it was probably wild caught.  Where did you purchase her from, a pet store?  Can you find out where the pet store got her from?
It does take some time though for them to tame down depending on the age.  Do have an approximate age?

QUESTION: She has gotten a lot better about me holding her, now its usually when she is warm that she getsfeisty and nippy. But I do not plan on keeping her, I am searching for a home I approve of in hopes someone educated or at least is willing to learn about and provide for my little girl, I wantwd an arg. B/w but Pet Depot could not find one. I have searched everyone on the web for a b/w arg. In alabama andcome up empty. I don't know where pet depot gets their animals or I would purchase one from the breeder (if there really is one) myself. I know I made a mistake getting the wrong animal knowing I would not be fully satisfied, and I love my little girl, she's absolutely precious when she is calm and settles on my arm or shoulder.

Answer
Hello Samantha,

That is great she has gotten a little bit more calm now with you.  When she gets optimal temperature, that will definitely liven her up though when she is a good temperature.
I am sorry you are not completely happy with her.  Have you looked into any rescue facilities?
Here is a nice tegu forum.  The guy's name is Bobby & he is out of Florida I believe.  If I were to purchase a tegu, I would definitely purchase one from him.
Here is a forum you can look into:

Do try to find a rescue facility, if possible.  There is a wanted area in this forum also, perhaps you can find a new home for her.
Do you have a picture of her right now?
