heat bulbs

Do you need a heat lamp to use a heat blub or can the bulb be used in a normal table lamp?

Well, it will work if that's what you mean...the 'heat lamps' that are sold in most reptile stores are really no different than regular lamps, except that their dome shape allows for more heat to be transfered into the tank(and less into the room that it is in). I can't imagine how you would rig a table lamp up to the top of an aquarium, but as long as the temperature in the tank(and the room it is in) is at what it should be, then you'll be fine.
