Question
Dear Kristi,
I am asking how i can improve my bearded dragon setup I have a cave a log up the hot end of the cage. Then i have a piece of wood that i found on the beach going from the basking area to the cool end,the water bowl is also down the cool end and i have a piece of wood with an artificial plant sticking out and for my substrate i have half beech chippings and half reptile sand

Answer
There are  a lot different opinions in regards to setups.  Personally, I prefer to not use a loose particle substrate.  I use paper towel with the juveniles and tile with adults.  For adults, it is safe to use washed playsand (the kind you can purchase at Lowes or Home Depot).  Wood shavings, reptile sand and calci-sand are poor choices.

Make sure you have the correct lighting.  At least an 8.0 (10.0 is better) UVB tube light or a Mercury Vapor Bulb such as a ZooMed Powersun.  The temps on the basking side should be 105-110.

Beardies really won't care what decorations you put in their tank.  The best set ups are ones that aren't cluttered.  Beardies like to walk around their tank so they like that extra floor space.

Be careful of artificial plants, sometimes a beardie may mistake it for food.

I'm not really sure what other advice I can offer.  You can try using landscaping bricks, tile, backgrounds, etc to enhance the appearance of your setup.
