Question
QUESTION: there are like dry white deposits by my savannah monitors nostrils, it has been there for a few days anything I should watch out for?

ANSWER: Hello Alex,

Do they look like nose plugs due to shedding?  Sometimes, they get salt deposits that build up in their nostrils.
Are your temps optimal for him?  How is his breathing?  You should watch for any mucous in the nose or mouth that could indicate a respiratory infection.

QUESTION: It looks dry but the other night after he drank some water some clear water came out of his nose after that it looked like some of the white stuff went away the actual nostril holes don't look clogged at all, his temps at 75-80F at night and 85-90F during day with basking spot around 95F. I'm thinking it might be salt deposits cause it's right behind the actual holes. anything I should watch for if it's a respiratory infection?

Answer
Hello Alex,

Hm, well, your basking temps are way too low for a savannah monitor.  They need it from 110-120 on the basking spots, with warm areas around 85-90 & a cooler spot of 75-80.  They need varying gradients.
He may not be able to breathe well if water came out of his nose while he was drinking.  Can you listen to him breathing?  Do you hear any crackling, clicking or popping noises while breathing?  I am concerned about the white stuff in his nostrils.  It could be salt deposits, but nonetheless, the basking temps do need to come up.  Are you using any UVB lighting?  What sized tank is he in?  You could use a mercury vapor bulb if your tank is at least a 40 gallon.  The Megaray or the T-rex active UV heat are the only 2 that I recommend & if you get a 100 watt it will need to be 12 inches from him.  That probably will not be quite enough heat so you will need to use the current basking bulb with it as well to get the temps closer to 120.
Does he have any stringy or thick off colored saliva or mucous in his mouth?
Try increasing the temps ok?  Make sure you are using a digital probe or a temp gun to make sure the temps are accurate.
