My green anole looks really skinny.

Question
QUESTION: I have two adult green anoles that I keep in a terrarium that is 36x18x24. They are male and female and I keep them separated with a divider. I use a reptile carpet for the bottom and clean it regularly. They each have their own basking light and I have a 36inch reptisun 5.0 uvb bulb for the top. The temperature for the daytime is between 80 and 90 degrees, at night it is around 75 degrees. I use a fogger to keep the humidity up. Their diet consists of crickets, phoenix worms, the occasional moth from outside and fruit baby food.

My worry is with my female. She has a great appetite yet she has been looking very skinny. Her stool looks normal. She does have an issue with metabolic bone disease which I have been trying to keep under control with calcium dusted on her food and keeping her outside during the daytime in a screen terrarium. Her tail still looks a bit boney.

I feed her about 3 small crickets/3 small phoenix worms a day. The crickets are dusted with calcium 2x a week. I have had her for 2 1/2 years and have always fed her that much. Lately she always looks skinny like she hasn't eaten in a while. I'm not sure what it could be...it doesn't seem like it would be parasites because her stool looks normal, she could eat until she explodes, and she isn't lethargic at all. She looks and acts normal otherwise. Should I be feeding her more? And do you have anymore suggestions for her metabolic bone disease?

ANSWER: Hello Jessica,

Your setup sounds great for them both.
What type of thermometer do you use to measure the temperature?
Is she eating her feeders with the powder on them?  Do you keep a small dish of calcium powder in there for her as well?  I would dust her feeders at least 3 times per week.
Has she ever laid infertile or fertile eggs?
You can try to feed her more, if she will eat more.  Do you know how old she is?
You could try some liquid calcium for her, as she would not need much at all.
Do you have any pictures of her that I could see?

QUESTION: I use a digital thermometer. She eats the crickets with and without the powder. She has a great appetite. She has laid many eggs that were fertile. I actually have 2 of her babies which are a little over 8 months old now and they are doing great. The rest of her babies are outside. I have had her for 2 1/2 years. She got into the house from outside and we couldn't get her to go back outside. She is very very tame for a wild lizard. I have been feeding her more baby food and keeping her outside with better sunlight and humidity which does seem to help. I do have liquid calcium that was given to me by a vet, but she seems to become lethargic after drinking it, so I don't like to give it to her.

ANSWER: Hello Jessica,

That is great she is eating so well right now.  Wow that is cool you have a couple of her babies too.  It is not common that green anoles become so tame, you are lucky!
What an interesting story, she didn't want to leave huh?
Good, the digital thermometer should be measuring the temperatures fine then.  I am sure the sunlight is helping her quite a bit.
Just increase the dusting to 3 times per week on the calcium as well.  The baby food should hopefully help to bulk her back up a little.  The egg laying will take its toll on her.

How is she doing today?

QUESTION: She is doing better. I think putting her outside more is helping a lot. She actually isn't laying eggs. As soon as my male started showing his dewlap and bobbing his head, I put up a divider so that they could not mate. Since she does suffer from metabolic bone disease, it's just better to keep her from laying eggs although when she does, they are good.

I actually have a question about my male though. The divider I put up is a wooden border with screen on it so they can still see each other. I have seen him rubbing his nose on the screen, and you can see his nose looks like he rubbed his nose on it until it was raw. It looks worse today and I just want to make sure that is what is going on and there aren't any conditions or disease that would cause a wound like appearance on the tip of their nose. I am putting up fabric on his side so that he can not see her and hopefully will recover.

Answer
Hello Jessica,

That is good she is not laying any eggs right now then.  That was a great idea to make sure they could not see each other then, when he started showing his dewlap for her.
Yes, it is better not to mate her with metabolic bone disease.
The outside time I am sure has helped her a lot.
Oh poor guy, he ha rubbed his nose raw?  Put some antibiotic ointment on the end of his nose.  I don't think there is any condition that would cause the nose to be raw like this.
Does it look like it is getting infected?  Do you have a picture of him?
