Question
QUESTION: My 3 year old gecko has become extremely underwieght, she has become skeletal and i have no idea why. I have seen her eat crickets but not a whole lot, my local pet store advised lots and lots of wax worms..to no effect. She lives with another female but i have seen no signs of stress or anything along those lines i use Nutrobal calcium powder on the food every few feedings but nothing seems to be working. im really stuck and feel really bad, any advised would be greatly appreciated!

ANSWER: Hello Chris,

I definitely would not feed tons of waxies, as too much fat would be hard on her system.  So the other female is doing fine then?
How is the stool looking of your sick one?
What type of heating are you using, an undertank heater & a ceramic heat emitter or a low wattage light bulb?
I would begin syringe feeding at this point.  Use chicken or turkey babyfood & then some nutrabol mixed in & get 1-2 cc's of food into her.  You may need to get a swab to open the mouth gently then quickly squirt the food in.
I would recommend getting a fecal done on her to rule out parasites or worms immediately.

Let me know how she is doing.

QUESTION: Im using a bulb and an undertank heater, and the other female is 100% healthy so i didnt think it could be something in the tank or they would both have it, another thing is the stool is fine, it has that little white bit on the end. so im awfully confused on what it is.

Answer
Hello Chris,

Are you sure that she is eating enough?  I would still get a fecal done on her just to see if it checks out ok.  She could have worms, which would be one reason why she is not maintaining her weight.
Also, sometimes, genetics play a rold as well.  Some are just not as healthy as another one is.  With inbreeding going on so much, you just never know what type of health your animal will be in alot of times.
I would begin feeding her some chicken or turkey babyfood with either a plastic dropper or a syringe, several times a week to see if that will help put some weight on her.  Start with 1-1.5 cc's or ml's each feeding.  Put some calcium powder in with that also.  Then, get a fecal done as well.

Keep me posted.
