Question

Sketch
Hello.  Two weeks ago i went to my local petco and bought Sketch, my yellow throated plated lizard.  About two days ago i noticed his jaws swelling, and now they look like he has pellets, from a pellet gun in his cheeks. It look extremly uncomfortable.  I have been told it sounds like mouth rot, but i am not sure.  i didnt know if there were any alternate treatments besides going to the vet, the nearest one is over an hour from me.

Answer
Hello Kristen,

What is your basking temperature like,  are you measuring the temps with a temp gun or a digital probe?  The basking spot should be around 95 or so, & the cooler end around 80.
The humidity should be around 50-60% or so but not any higher than that.
What type & brand of UVB are you using, a flourescent tube bulb or a compact or coil light?  What type of basking light are you using, is it a bright white light or a colored light?
Mouthrot can be caused by a mouth injury, that gets infected due to it getting dirty & then their immune system gets depressed.  If the temps are not optimal, that will suppress their immune system further, allowing an infection to set in.
What do you feed him?
