Green anoles color

Question
Whenever my green anole is in it's tank, it turns brown, but not a dark brown like when it's stressed. When I take it out and let it crawl on me, it turns bright green. It is the right temperature in the tank, good humidity, I feed it regularly, plenty of things to climb and places to hide. The only times I see it green while in the tank is at night when it's sleeping. Do you know why it isn't green all the time when it's in the tank? Is it unhappy?

Answer
Hello Jessica,

The brown can indicate stress or illness. But more often just stress.

Can you tell me more about the setup? You say you have accurate temperatures and humidity... What is accurate?

How big is the enclosure?
What is the precise temperature warm side and cool side?
Humidity level?
How often is regularly when talking about feeding?

Any other unusuall behavior?

What is he being fed?

Is he housed with any other animal?

Does he have a view from his tank of another animal or window?

Get back to me with those answers soI can help narrow it down a bit.

Thanks,
Heather
