My red ear slider is losing its scales consecutively around the base of its shell, starting at the back tip.  It looks raw and irritated.  It is anly about a year old.  Please advise.

What type of feeding schedule do you have for your red ear slider?
Do you provide UVB lighting for him, & vitamin & calcium supplementation on a regular basis?  
Can you post a picture of that for me?
How often do you clean out his water?
Scale problems often reflect a vitamin A, D or calcium deficiency.
