Question
QUESTION: Hello Tracie, Thanks for all your help. One of our leos is on baytril and terramycin for the eyes. She is also skinny and appears to be "gasping" by opening her mouth every few minutes and her body expands as if she is trying to take a huge breath perhaps. Have you ever heard of such a thing? We are taking a stool sample to the vet to check for parasites as soon as possible. Hopefully the sample from last night did not dry out: it was wrapped in a paper towel and then foil, and placed into a plastic ziploc bag. Mom forgot to take it to vet this morning, so do you think it might last til tomorrow a.m.? thanks!

p.s. I am bookmarking you website so that i can start purchasing and scheduling consultations in the near future.

ANSWER: Hello Crystal,

Oh boy, hon, that type of intermittent breathing is usually not good at all.  What is your leo on Baytril for?  Did she have a respiratory infection?  What is the dose that she was on?
Is she eating anything right now?  If you want to try to get some food into her, get some chicken, turkey or beef baby food to feed to her daily.  The best way to feed her is by way of plastic syringe or plastic dropper to simply just drop food onto the end of her nose.  Usually they will lick the food off of the end of nose once they realize it is food.
Well, as long as the sample is kept away from air, it stands a chance of being a "decent" sample.  Bear in mind though, that a lot of parasites & worms quickly die after a short amount of time of exiting the host.  It is still better than nothing though, so you should still try to get the fecal to the vet for analysis.

Oh that is nice.  How do you know of my site?

Let me know how your leo is doing.

QUESTION: Hello Tracie,
I wanted to ask you for your site one more time. I am not at home and not sure if I have it saved in my files on my computer. Also wanted to inform you that the gasping leo is not gasping anymore, and she has a fat tail once again! She has been eating waxworms. :) I am soo glad she fattened up before the winter comes!

Answer
Hello Crystal,

Oh I am so happy to hear that your gecko is doing better.  Do you have a few updated pictures of her so I can see her fat tail??
It must have been a reaction to the Baytril!  I assume that she is off of the medication now, correct?
Is she eating crickets too, as well as waxworms?

Sure, my website is:
http://www.bug-de-lite.com/

Please let me know how she is doing.

Tracie
