Rabbit that is being a picky eater

If you notice below this is the reply that you gave me to my question and you were being very determined that that was the only thing that it could be; Well I just want you to know that I took him to a veterinarian today and he is not having any health issues; he is just being very finicky. So thank you but yes they can and do at times get picky about what they eat. Nancy

I realize this but my problem is that I cannot get him to eat anything else. If
I replace it or try putting pellets in and remove what he does eat out of the
mixture he does not eat anything and then he stops drinking. I need to know what
I can do to get him swithced to a healthy diet without him doing what he has
done in the past which is to quit eating and drinking completely.

Dear Nancy,

If you read my response carefully, you will note that I already have suggested
what you can do to help him get his appetite back:  have his molars checked.  I
cannot overstate how important this is.

If he stops eating and drinking completely, then he has a health problem, not a
picky eating problem.  And until you get that problem diagnosed and treated by a
good rabbit vet, you might have to force-feed him, as per the instructions in

Dear Nancy,

Yes, they can be picky about what they eat.  As I said, they can be like bratty children who need "tough love" and direction from the caregiver who must provide a proper diet.

And *very* often, the picky eating is due to a health disorder that has gone undiagnosed.  If the vet you saw didn't look at the molars, I would still consider that a possibility.

Now that you have an answer from the vet that you have found to your liking, you can take or leave my suggestions.  Your choice.
