Question
hi, my female dutch rabbit, pippa has got wot looks like a wort on her skin, it is a fair size lump of skin just hanging off her right hand side of her chest area. it has small black spts on top off it but think this may be due to her biting it when she has been cleaning. could this lump be life threatining to her. please help. thankyou

Answer
Dear Katie,

Without seeing the lump, I can't even begin to guess whether it is just a flap of skin, a true wart/papilloma, a tumor, or an abscess. (You don't say how big it is, whether it's attached to the underlying tissue or not, its exact location, what color and texture it is, etc.)  The best thing to do would be to get her to a good rabbit vet:

www.rabbit.org/vets

for a full exam, and let the vet determine what the lump is.  If it's harmless, then at least your bunny has had a good wellness check.  And if it's something that needs to be treated, the vet is the best person to prescribe appropriate medications, etc.

Hope this helps!
