My rabbit died and I dont know why

Question
hi, couple days ago my rabbit died out of no where. I notice the day before he died, his eyes were a little watery. Also he wasnt doing anything much or moving. One more thing, i notice his nose wasn't moving up and down how it usually is, and that for some reason he was breathing pretty hard. He didnt even eat or drink that day, which was weird because he did eat and drink the day before that. Can you please tell me what might be the reason what was happening to him that he died? Thank you

Answer
Dear Phuong,

I am sorry for the loss of your bunny.

Without a post mortem examination by a vet, there is absolutely no way to know for sure why your bunny died.  If the bunny was outdoors, and it was hot, then heat stroke is a prime suspect.  Rabbits can NOT be outside in the heat, even with shade.  Temperatures above 80 Farenheit can be fatal to them, and we hear of far too many heat-related deaths this time of year.

In the summer, or in any hot weather, bunny must be inside with air conditioning or risk death from heat.

If the bunny was NOT subject to heat, then it could have been any of a hundred different things.  Please read:

for a little more information on how to know if your bunny is sick and what to do.  But if a bunny stops eating and drinking, you must consider it an emergency and get bun to a good rabbit vet immediately:

I wish I could have helped sooner.
