Rabbit Shedding?

Question
Hi! I was wondering if you can answer my question. My bunny has been shedding alot this summer! Is this normal? My whole family is concerned it is because he is not eating his food or he's not getting enogh nutrients or somptin. We feed him the Fiesta brand from Kaytee pet food. From the first we got him this is the only food he will eat. But we seem to be finding alot of wet food leftovers when we clean his cage and a ton of fur too. Do you have any grooming tips for shedding?  What can we do for his food? He is a min lop rabbit named Patches! Thanks.

Answer
All the bunnies seem to be doing this this summer.  It may be the heat.  But, you do need to groom him so that when he grooms himself he doesn't ingest the loose fur.  This can form into a hairball in the stomach, and rabbits can't throw up like cats, they have to pass it through the long way.

You can use a flea comb, a bristle brush, or whatever works best for you to get off the extra fur.

You could also start giving him Laxatone or Petromalt or a similar product, in case he is trying to form any, to help them pass through.  Rabbits will start eating less because of that, you can read more about them at http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabrefs.html#stasis
