Mini Rex problems

Question
Hi Dana,
I have to questions about my 1 1/2 year old mini rex 'Sprout'.  She had a bump (pink and hard) on the inside of her foot (about the size of a bad human pimple) for the past few months but I wasn't sure if it was always there or not, so I let it be.  Today when I checked on it, it fell off her foot into my hand, leaving a hole in the side of her foot.  I have no idea what it may have been (wart? abscess?) and if I should be seeking some intervention or not.
My second question is, she has been growing 'extra fur' around her neck, bum and front limbs.  I'm worried that this is inhibiting her from getting a proper cleaning, but the person I rely on at the pet store says it's natural???  My second bunny hasn't had any of these issues and they live in the same cage.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx. :) Erin

Answer
Dear Erin,

If the bump left no open wound when it fell off, then I'd just leave it alone.  But if there is an open wound, you should disinfect it well with dilute povidone iodine solution (diluted in clean, lukewarm water to the color of weak tea), dry it well, and have a good rabbit vet take a look to be sure there's no exposed bone or other tissue that needs bandaging for protection while it heals.

When you mean "extra fur", what does it look like?  When you gently tug on it, does it easily come out?  If so, this "extra" fur might just be her old coat that she's shedding out, but can't reach to groom off.  You can help her by combing and pulling it off so she doesn't ingest it.

If this doesn't fit what you're seeing, please write back with more details about what this "extra fur" looks like, and I'll try to help.
