Question
Does the mini rexes hair shed?

Answer
Mindy..the answer to your question is YES, most definitely. Mini-rex rabbits, like most others, go through a molt a couple of times a year. This means that they grow a new coa. There are very practical reasons for a rabbit to go through a molt. Can you guess what those reasons are?

Sometimes it will be to enhance and thicken the coat they already have (More fur means they'll be warmer in the winter). When this occurs they lose a little fur (shed), but much of it is just dead fur that has been caught up in the old coat any way. Also, the new fur will push out some of the older fur as it grow from the very same hair follicle (or root.)

In the early spring when the weather gets warmer they also molt. This molt has a simple purpose, to get rid of all that very warm extra fur they grew last fall! So you'll see more shedding and extra loose fur in the spring than you will in the fall. Does that help? Minirex follow the same pattern that most rabbits follow, and they indded do shed their coats.   Hope this was useful. Steve
