holland lops and possible blindness/cataracts

Question
Would you happen to know if it is possible that a holland lop could be blind at birth?  I realize that anything is possible, however, he is only 8 mos. old and he has 2 white spots that you can see in the right lighting over his pupils.  He is also very apprehensive, skiddish, and appears that he relys on his sense of sound.  It seems as though he is very afraid of people and he runs when he hears you coming until he realizes who it is and then we can get close enough to pet him.  He also does not like to be held.  We have 2 lops and they are so totally opposite of one another.  I am sorry to go on, but potential blindness would totally explain his behaviors.  We have not taken him to the vet as of yet regarding this.  Can you please advise?  Thank you so much for your time,  Kim

Answer
If he is developing a white film over his eyes, that would most likely be cataracts. It could be caused by multiple different things. An injury or abrasion to the eye could cause it. An infection that set in before or shortly after the eyes opened is quite possible, and it could have caused full or partial blindness from a very early age. It can also be genetic.
