pulling out fur

Question
Hello.  Our family bunny, Mr. Snuggles, is pulling out his fur on the underside of his neck and belly.  He is putting it all in his bedroom (he has a cage with a box attached as his bed) I was wondering if he is possibly cold or if something might be wrong?  Last year he had done something similar though more extreme, however that time he wasn't eating, so I took him to the vet, and he said he had mites and treated him accordingly.  This time, he is acting perfectly normal, eating and drinking well, and cuddling as usual.  Someone in a pet store had told me that there is a breed of bunny that removes it's fur once a year, is this true?  Mr. Snuggles is mostly white, with black around each eye, black ears (about 3.5" long) and one black spot on his little fanny... does this help in terms of what breed he may be?

Answer
He is probably some sort of Californian or Himalayan or a mix.  Those are the colors of those breeds.  As for a certain breed pulling its hair??? I have never heard of this.  I know rabbits molt about twice a year but the hair generally falls out on its own.  Some of the longer haired breeds will pull the fur if they start to get matted.

Honestly I would take him back to the vet.  If he did this before and is having the same episodes then the mites may have returned.  If he were a girl I would say he could be having a false pregnancy.  Bucks don't have false pregnancies so you can pretty much rule that out.

I am attaching a site about fur loss that might help

I hope this helps you and good luck
