Question
Hello,

We have a 6 month old male mini dwarf lop / lionhead cross.
We have just noticed in the last day that his bottom teeth are missing. His top teeth are fine. There doesnt appear to be any inflamation and he is still eating OK. He appears to be fine. Hes running around the garden like normal. He is eating both dry and green / fresh food (including my patio pots!). The only reason we noticed is because he went to lick or nip my husbands finger and it didnt really hurt!!

We dont know if he has always had this or whether they have fallen or been knocked out.

Can you tell us if this is anything we should be worrying about?
What would be the best course of action? Should we take him straight to see a vet or leave it for a few days to see what happens?

Thanks

Nicola

Answer
Dear Nicola,

If his teeth broke off, they should grow back soon, especially in a young, growing bunny.  But it would still be wise to get him to a good rabbit vet:

www.rabbit.org/vets

to have the upper teeth filed/cut (not clipped) so that they don't overgrow while the new bottom incisors are growing back.  The vet also can examine the lower jaw to be sure nothing is broken, and that the new teeth are emerging normally.

I hope he'll be fine again very soon, and am betting he will be with a little extra help from you.  :)
