Question
Hey I am Kate and I just got a beautiful female dwarf lop rabbit 2 weeks ago. she is 9 weeks old now and my dad and I built a hutch for her!
Recently she has started jumping out of the cage whenever I open the lid! We also have this box where she sleeps and she always jumps up on that, jumps out of the cage and tries to run away! We have holes in our fences and live on a main road which just makes things worse. I am very scared for her and Mum and Dad just say not to worry about her! But I just can't not worry about her! Is there anyway of stopping her jump out!?
Please PLEASE PLEASE! help me!
Kate!

Answer
Hi Kate

Baby rabbits are curious.  They want to play.  Try to open the door slowly and push her back a bit when you reach in.  Another thing you can do is give her a lot of attention, pick her up and play with her as much as you can.

I hate to side with your mum and dad but she is just curious and I would say the same thing.  Just make sure she has a lot of bunny safe toys.  Give her un-treated wood toys, hard plastic balls etc.  Give her lots of things to keep her mind occupied so she likes her home.  When she gets older she should grow out of it.  Older rabbits are a little bit wiser than the wee ones.  The little one's think they are invincible where the older one's tend not to jump out of the cage because they know its a long drop and they can become hurt.  Just be patient with her and she will be ok.  Remember that she is still getting used to you.

Thank you and Good luck

Pam
