Keep him in an apartment?

Question
Hi, I have a male dwarf lop - about 6 months old or so.  About 3 months ago, he started snuggling with me, circling my feet and chasing me, which is cute!  1 1/2 months ago, he started clawing at my feet or shoulders - relentlessly!  He has always chewed on my baseboards and clawed at my carpet.

I have the opportunity to leave him with my mom, who would take very good care of him, but he would have to stay outside in a large aviary, except on extreme temp days.

I feel really guilty because I love him but I'm afraid that even after neutering him, he will continue to damage my apartment.

What range of temperatures are safe for a rabbit if he is to be kept outdoors?  Thanks for any answers.

Answer
Dear Kelly,

If you asked me, I'd vote for you bringing him with you, but having him neutered and then allowing him to choose a spayed mate from your local rabbit rescuer:

A bonded bunny with a mate to entertain him is almost always much less destructive, and since he's young and unneutered, he's going to calm down soon, anyway.  This way, you can leave the bunnies at home without feeling guilty that they're not getting enough attention.

Rabbits can do fine at temperatures from about 55 - 75 Farenheit, but need warm shelter at lower temperatures and MUST have cool at higher temperatures, which are more dangerous to them than low temperatures.

An indoor habitat is best, of course.

Hope that helps.
