Our new rabits

Question
Hi I wonder if you can help. My sister and girlfried have bought a rabit each that are almost idential. They were bought fron the same place but are kept a few miles apart.

I think they are about 8-9 weeks old. They are kept in hutchs outside. The place they were bought from said not to feed them anything exept pellets till there 6 months old. We would like to make them pens outside there hutchs so that they can run around in the grass. If they do this and eat the grass will it hurt them? Also when can we start to feed them fruit and veg? Both are often taken in to the houses were they live so that they can run around and get used to humans. Both seem happy enough to run round but both have to be chased and trapped so that they can be picked up as put back in the hutch. Is there a better was of doing this? Would carrying them in a box be better then by hand? The buck stays fairly still when his picked up but the doe kicks. Is it possible to train a rabbit to use diffrent litter trays ie 1 in house and one it hutch? Whens the best time to start to train them?

Answer
hi dave,
make a pen by all means they wont eat much grass anyway.
if you feed pellets they dont want anything else only water to drink.
i would never give rabbits fruit as it may cause scours(the runs).
the only way to stop them kicking is to pick them up daily , and this way they get used to it and settle down.dont use a box they must have hands on contact with you.start training immediately.
dave.
