Question
My rabbit has a with spot on her eye..i took her to the vet and she said it was a scratch..we have been giving her antibiothics but it is still there.  is my rabbit ok?

Answer
Dear Wendy,

A corneal injury can appear to be a whitish spot, and even after treatment there could be a small scar that's opaque.  When you consider that the cornea is the only perfectly transparent tissue in the body, you can imagine that it's difficult for the body to perfectly duplicate that clarity with scar tissue.

Keep up the antibiotic drops for the full course the vet recommended.  In some cases, you'll see blood vessels migrate to the area of injury, which looks alarming but is actually a good thing, meaning that the body is delivering repair substances to the area.  In time, a corneal scar may become smaller and more translucent.  It will not interfere with your bunny's vision in a crippling way, though she'll have a little  blind spot where the scar is located.

Be sure to go for a followup visit to the vet in a week or two, so the vet can be sure healing is taking place and that no other treatments are necessary.

Hope this helps.
