QUESTION: I was wondering what the average life expectency of a mini lop is?

Well that is a really hard question !
there are a lot of factors involved in the life of a rabbit.
Avg for a mini lop may be between 3-6 years.
it depends on :
Diet=15% proten or less
climate= does your rabbit live in doors  or outdoors?
Genetics= how long did its parents live.
purpose= if its a doe do you breed it 4-5 times a year? if a buck
        do you breed more than 20 does with him a year?
Do you take it to many rabbit shows. this = stress
is it overweight?
under weight?

So as you can see there are lots of things that can shorten the life span.

QUESTION: It's in a seventh grade classroom as a pet. Male, indoors, never shown, not a breeder, eats pellets, fresh greens and apples, don't know about parents, underweight. I'm a substitute teacher for the class and the students tell me it's 10 years old. I find that very hard to believe as I didn't think rabbits lived that long.

Well thanks for the follow up.
I would say it is possible the longest reported rabbit life span is over 16 yrs. so it is possible.
I would say 10 yrs is really good but it seems like the right living conditions.
