Bunny Wont Eat Hay!

Question
My 6 month old Dutch bunny, Boo, is a healthy bun: normal poops, normal pee, excitement over treats. He is a full-time house rabbit with safe places to play and gets lots of attention from his humans. He gets pellets, fresh water, and he LOVES parsley! But he rarely will touch his hay!I put fresh timothy hay in his cage, litter boxes and play boxes, and i even purchased tmothy hay biscuits, and he only nibbles occasionally at them! He's showing all of the signs of needing to be neutered, but could his refusal to eat hay be part of that, too? otherwise, he is a healthy, active, teenage-bunny!

Answer
Dear Jean,

Not being neutered should not affect his appetite for hay.  He might just be a picky eater.

You might want to try a different brand of hay.  We use American Pet Diner "Timmy Gold", which is a second cut hay.  VERY green and fresh and fragrant, and just irresistible!  If that doesn't wash, then perhaps other types of grass hay, such as those sold by Oxbow Hay Company.

If all else fails, you can grow him some fresh grass from seed (no pesticides or fertilizers, of course), and let him eat that.  It's very good for his teeth, too.

Hope that helps.
