Question
Hello,

How long do rabbits live?

are they prone to any health problems?

do they enjoy being petted and sitting on a lap?

Can they get along with dogs?

How large of a cage would I need for a mini rex sized rabbit?

Can they be taken outside?

Do they enjoy human company?

Will it be ok living by itsself?... I don't have room for two.

Thank you for any help in advance.

Answer
For a new rabbit owner or someone looking into rabbits as pets I would suggest going to the library or pet store and getting a few books that will answer all of your questions.  You can also check out www.rabbit.org for some good information -- keep in mind that they are a rescue society so they are pretty strong in some opinions that I don't agree with (spay/neuter, inside vs outside etc), but they do have some great info.

Rabbits make super pets and can be litter trained like cats.  They can sometimes get along with dogs, but the dog needs to be willing to share in the relationship.  Most rabbits love to be pet and loved on, and enjoy free time outside (under supervision).  On average rabbits have the same lifespan as a dog or cat.  Most rabbits I have prefer to be the only rabbit in the cage/household, they are territorial and don't often get along with other bunnies.
