my bunny is late

Question
QUESTION: i have a french angora (i think) and a black lop male. i breed them about 37 days ago. the doe has been making and her nest although not pulling fur. also she has seemingly been destroying her nest every second day and now much of the hay in her box is out of the floor of the cage. she is eating the hay though and does not seem to be wanting to have them on the floor.

i left the buck with her...unfortunately, for between a week to 2 weeks because my bunny's didnt seem to get the gist of it. although with some research im worried that she may be having some problems...

i believe that she is pregnant though because she has put on a substanial amount of weight, so i really doubt that it could be a false pregnancy although the buck has had an injury a while back to his genitals by another male rabbit. i treated it with bedadine and mint....it took a week to heal and now you couldnt tell.
is it a problem with my male or my female...is it time to take to a vet or is she just late?

ANSWER: hello katherine

female rabbits are not usually late having their babies but your bunny will know when its the right time to have her babies. It sounds like your bunny most definatley is pregnant, as she has put on weight and have made her nest, its unusual that she has not pulled out her fur though. is your bunny eating more and is more aggressive? (thats another two main signs of pregnancy). Is this you rabbits first litter? she may not know what exactly she is doing and may be getting a bit confused as she could be think that the babies are coming today and then think no there not today, which may explain why she keeps messing up her nest.

put your hand gently on her belly and see if you can feel anything and if you can feel the babies kicking, if they are kicking then they are perfectly fine, and if they are kicking alot it usualy means that the babies will be coming soon.

im sure the babies are fine and just dont want to come out yet.

hope this helps, if you would like any more help then please just ask.

QUESTION: it has been another couple of weeks, so now she has been pregnant for about a month and a half....6 weeks, perhaps 7 and im still worried...is this normal? what if the kits are dead inside her or what if they grow to big for her to pass?
if i shouldn't be worried, when should i?

once i had a pig who was apart from the male for about a year, there gestation is only 3 months however after the year of separation she gave birth to an amazing 17 piglets. is this whats happening to my bunny?

Answer
hello

it has been very long now, it doesnt necesarily mean there is something wrong but just in case i will take her to the vets to get her checked.

is the mum rabbit distressed and still eating/drinking?have you felt to see if they are kicking inside her? usualy the longer the time the more babies in the litter, but not always bigger babies.

i hope everything goes ok
