Question
i have a buck that is 3 months old . my question is could i put him in with his father? second question is could i give rabbits peanuts with or without salt on? thank- you

Answer
Hi Lisa,

putting two intact males together is not a good idea.  They will fight, even if they are related.  You will save yourself injured rabbits and vet bills by keeping them in separate cages.

As for peanuts, I would not recommend feeding peanuts to rabbits.  They are high in fat and calories and are not a good thing to feed them.  If you are looking for good treats to feed them, consider hay cubes, one or two cheerios, a small piece of dried papaya (or a papaya tablet), a couple sprigs of parsley, an extra lettuce leaf, even a couple extra timothy pellets.

Avoid high sugar/high carb items like bread, sugary treats, bananas, or oat flakes, and no salt licks (they don't need them).

The House Rabbit Society (www.rabbit.org) has excellent resources on rabbit diet issues.  Check out their web site for great diet articles, snack ideas, etc.

They will live longer on a better (leaner) diet and run into less health problems.  This will also help you reduce vet bills over the years as well.

PS - Hi Lisa, I read your rating comment and your question about breeding.  I'd give her a rest for at least 4 months, and even better would be six months.
