Question

brownie
I see white flakes in the upper neck and shoulders/back area of my 8 yr. old female bunny, Brownie. Would Revolution help? What dosage for a 4 lb. little sweetie? Once a month, year round?
Thank you.

Answer
Dear Bill,

This looks like signs of fur mites (Cheyletiella parasitivorax).  Please see:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/furloss.html

for more information.

These tend to be susceptible to Revolution.  The dose for a typical mammal (including a rabbit) is 6mg/kg once every 3-4 weeks.

If you have the cat solution (60mg/ml), then that means you'll apply 0.1cc/kg to the back of the neck/shoulders.  If you have the big dog solution, use half that amount:  0.05cc/kg.  The concentration of the solution should be marked on the box.

Revolution requires a veterinary prescription, so now would be a good time to take Brownie to a good, rabbit savvy vet:

www.rabbit.org/vets

who can give her a wellness check and prescribe appropriate treatment for the flaking.

Hope this helps.
