cleaning new babies box

Question
We have six new babies about 2 weeks old.  They look healthy but they smell bad and have pee on them.  They are in a wood box in their mothers hair.  I am wondering how I can keep them cleaner without harming or upsetting them.  They are in a well built hutch outside in cooler wheather with fall arriving.
We have pollyurithane which feels allot like the mothers fur but I don't want to do anything until I am sure it is safe.
Thank you very much for your help.

Answer
Hi,
They do get smelly and wet sometimes with pee, especially when there are lots of babies. I would take them out of the box, and change the bedding, saving as much of the mom's fur as possible to cover them with. They are still a bit young to take away all of moms fur just yet.
The polyuithane stuff can be harmful if not careful. When it gets wet or soiled it tends to wrap around baby legs and necks. I have had a few bad expriences with it and i myself will never use it again. You can also add wood chips-pine, shredded newspaper, hay/straw, or cloth torn into strips to help keep them warm too. Also if you have any shedding rabbits, or wooly rabbits you can use that fur too! Cleaning them up will not upset them. keeping them in the pee smelling bedding would hurt them the most.
