Question
hi, i have a 10 day old dwarf rabbit (eyes not yet open) whose mother died just after birth. there was one other kit but it died at 3 days. (the mother was not my rabbit but the owner had no idea the rabbit was even pregnant and didnt want to look after the babies). sadly i am in a foreign country and dont know anyone else with rabbits, let alone one that i could foster this kit to. i have been using kitten milk replacer and feeding often as this is the only way to ensure bunny is eating enough and doesnt get too cold. it pees and poops (though it pees just once a day, is this normal?)it is still skinny but active, howvwer i do not want to take it to a vet when it is so young and so cold outside (-2 degrees C). i have phoned vets to see if they sell probiotics for bunnies but have had no luck, i am looking for something like benebac to help it. could i use an acidophilus for humans? add a little to the milk or seperately? any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Ella! I don't have experience with what you are going through since we usually have other does we can foster to if needed. If the kits is still alive, then you are doing an amazing job! I say keep doing what you are doing and keep it warm. Nice warm cloths can act like the moms fur that usually are nestled in. As long as it is eating/drinking you are doing well. It MAY not make it despite anything you do. Keep using the milk replacer for now. It's eyes should open within a few days. Usually day 12 to 15. A vet visit will be needed as soon as you can take it. I an not familiar at all with what may be good for it in your country. I hope this helps. You are doing a wonderful thing in trying!
