abcess on my bunnys(Cookie) face

Question
Please help me I checked Cookie today and he has an abcess on the right side of his face. It is about the size of half dollar.  My parents set an appointment for him to be checked out.  The soonest is Monday afternoon(4 days). Cookie is a black lap, weighs maybe 3.5 pounds, and is 3 years old. He is eating but this seemed to happen overnight. What can I do?

Answer
Dear Christina,

(Sorry for the delay.  My DSL has been down--they're having problems with Earthlink all over Florida--and only now am I able to access the AllExperts site.  I'm going to have to put myself on "vacation" on this site until they get the problem fixed, so I'm sorry I might not be available for followup questions right away.)

For the moment, you're doing the right thing:  scheduling an appointment with a good *rabbit* vet:

www.rabbit.org/vets

Be sure the vet you see is familiar with rabbit dental problems, because this is the most likely cause of the problem.  Until the vet sees Cookie, there's not much you can do.  If he's eating and drinking and defecating normally, then hang in there and wait until the vet examines, diagnoses, and prescribes treatment.  You might want to read these to be prepared with the proper questions:

I hope this helps.
