QuestionOk, I have had a little experience with laboring rabbits before; however, this one that is starting her nest (we were expecting them around 03.01.2012, and today is 02.27.2012) and has been working on it for a few days, this is her first time. This one is weird though, she does not seem to want a nesting box. I tried putting a few in but she keeps moving it out and looks as if she is trying to push it out of her cage. I did though put a blanket over half of her cage for some privacy for her. Is it possible she doesn't want one?
AnswerSome does are insistent that they don't want a nest box. My best suggestion to you would be to use a solid bottom cage (the plastic kind) and let her have the babies where she wants. Another good alternative is a large plastic tote that she can live in until the babies are born. I don't breed anymore but when I did I never used nesting boxes. Although some does understand what the nesting box is for others get confused. They want to have their babies in the area that they feel they will be safe from predators.
Good luck
