QuestionHi
I have recently been looking after a domestic rabbit for a friend who is on holiday. She left me with a good stack of food for the bunny and plenty of advice as to how much to give it, where to put it and when to make it available etc.
A couple of evening ago, I was eating some grapes and one must have dropped on the floor. I only noticed when I saw the rabbit hop over to investigate it. It nibbled the grape; seemed to think for a second and then bit into it. It was funny to see its eyes open very wide and its ears dart forwards. it demolished the grape in a couple of seconds and then seemed to go hunting for some more.
Clearly, the rabbit thought the grape was delicious!
I haven't given the rabbit any more as I am unsure as to whether grapes are safe for them! Can rabbits be given grapes? the one I was looking after would certainly appreciate a few more!
Thanks for any advice
AnswerHi Peter,
A grape will not kill a rabbit but they should not be given frequently. They have a high sugar content and can cause an upset stomach. I would advise against intentionally giving the rabbit grapes. If on a rare occasion (about twice a week), the accidental ingestion of the fallen objects should be fine.
Happy bunny sitting!
