Question
Hi,
i have two pet rats and one of them has been ill for quite some time now. It all started with her suddenly losing her balance, she was falling around everywhere and struggling to climb. So i rushed her to the vets and they said she had an ear infection which they treated with three injections over a period of a week. She got loads better for a while but then deteriorated again.
She also cant seem to use her front left leg so that isnt helping her move around, maybe that points to a stroke?
also, sometimes when she comes out to play she suddenly goes very still and lays flat on the floor and will not move for a long time, she seems as if she is dead and she always poos when she does this aswell. i dont know if this is her having mini strokes possibly?
I took her to the vets again and they gave her the same treatment, it seems they only know one treatment for rats and i feel like if i take her again they will only do the same thing which isnt helping her long term.
she looks so sad and i just dont know what to do now. please help,
Hannah

Answer
Can  she use her front paws to grasp food?

What medication are they using on your girl?

Please read on my website, Sandyscrittercity.com about inner ear infection/head tilt and also about pituitary tumors as well. This is one or the other, but it is no way a stroke.

What is the name of your vet?

Please read on my site, esp about pituitary tumors.  I am worried this is what she may have.
I am going to assume she is older, at least 18 months or older?
