Question
Well me and my group wanted to see what would happened if the energy drink had any affect on them at all. I have three rats. One that was named Jake totally shut down. Most of the time if i come in the room and they are sleeping they'll raise their little heads and look at me and then go back to sleep. But Jake went to sleep and didn't open his eyes. He didn't even respond to touch. I had to feel his chest just to make sure he was still breathing. We think that they really did gain a little bit of energy. But one thing we noticed was that the coke and the energy was like crack to them. They couldn't get enough. Also could have the caffeine effected their metabolism? Becuase the rats have been in my house for the whole week while the experiment was going on. We didn't want to move them and make them nervous. So could the metabolism of a rat be screwed up just a little bit from the caffeine?
Also thank you for all your help.

Answer
Hi Marcos

No, that would not have messed up their metabolic rate like that really. You may have gotten them to be more energetic but it was temporary, just like when people drink too many Starbucks and get a buzz from the caffeine.  It wears off and it wont mess with their metabolic rate.
Diet and exercise speeds up the metabolic rate, but caffeine wont do that. If that were true, there would be alot of people that were alot thinner just by drinking coffee and sodas all day and not having to work out and exercise.  In fact if you can figure that out, let me know...I dont have a problem with weight, but it would be cool not to worry about eating high calorie foods all the time. All I would need to do after I stuffed my face with some ice cream and doughnuts is drink a mountain dew and lose weight!  LOL!
Sounds heavenly! :)

If your rat crashed and burned, he is either chillin because he was stressed, or he just isnt feeling so good and if thats the case, he may need to see a vet!
