Question
whats the best way to get my rats used to other people?

i have 2 rats, about 5 months old that live in my bedroom. im not allowed to have them downstairs. they are fine with me holding them ect, but hikaru is still a bit jumpy. my mam will give them treats whenever she goes into my room, and they will happily take them off her, but if i try to put one of them on her they wont let go of me.

i want to get them used to other people handling them, and not just me.

Answer
Rats are very untrusting animals, always having to look out for their own well being, mainly since they are the number one animal that is on the menu for many many predators.   THey know this and are very cautious.   You will need to have other people come in the room and get to know your rats slowly, sitting on the floor when they are out for play time, never letting the new person reach for them, but let the rat make the move first. After a while the rat should feel more comfortable and start to go to other people. My rats only see me and no other people.  They are shy of others, too, but they do warm up gradually and will climb all over anyone once they know they can trust them.
