Question
My two parakeets are coloured green with yellow. and they had layed three eggs, one of the egg hatched yesterday(after 18 days) and suddenly today the chick has died, why did it happen????? also i saw that the parents were nibbling at its body, are they eating it? should i throw the body away or what?

Also this is the parents first time at caring for babies, I know this cause i brought home the parents when they were very young, is this death due to lack of inexperience? what can become of the other two eggs still to hatch??
please.. please....... HELP..... thanks for reading all i have written....

Answer
I'm sorry for your loss. It's very difficult to watch something like this.
The reasons could be that they're inexperienced parents, or that the chick simply failed to thrive.  You should immediately remove the body.

If the parents haven't been fed a perfect diet, this could contribute to poor survival and fertilization rates, plus failure to thrive when chicks do hatch.
