Question
Do you know anything about alexandrines and/or rock pebblers?
Trying to decide between these 2. Need advice/info. on noise level, talking ability, cage size requirements, health issues, and any other general knowledge.

Answer
Well alexandrines are one of the easier large birds to own, but, like a cockatoo, they love to chew EVERYTHING. They're very athletic so they need a really big cage (taller the better) and need lots of toys to chew. They do best on a pellet diet with fruits. Veggies are always good, but with this particular bird, I've had better luck with fruit like mangos and oranges. They mimic ANYTHING they find interesting, so make sure there are no annoying noises in your house that you wouldn't be able to stand listening to for hours on end (like an alarm clock or microwave beep-get a radio alarm so there's nothing to mimic). Alexandrines aren't really known for plucking feathers, but they will learn to scream and call if you let them. Also make sure that everything in the cage is 100% safe because as they grow up, the tail gets VERY long and can get stuck in things easily.
Rock Pebbler or Regent parakeet is a very sweet bird, but they get fat easily, so they need to be in a VERY large cage or aviary to fly around. They do well on pellet diets with a little seed/nuts mixed in and nectar is VERY good for them. An easy way to make "nectar" is to blend 100% fruit juice frozen cocktail with a banana or some other fruit. This will help them live a lot longer. They're good talkers and are really easy to train, but don't ever let it think that it is the dominant one or it will just take over your life. They tend to get worms or fungal infections so you need to clean the cage VERY often. I would take it to the vet about once a year just for a checkup.
Both of these birds would be a great companion, it just depends upon the personality you want more. The main difference between the two is that the Alexandrine mimics more easily than the Regent, but the Regent will be easier to train and be more social.
