Blue & Gold Macaw Resocialization

Question
I have been around birds for at least the last 10 years. I had a wild-caught red-masked conure who, when I adopted him 7 years ago, he was vicious. He was on an all seed diet, And after 3 years, he finally accepted people food, but not in his dish, only from my hAnd or from a spoon. It took me another year to be able to get him to go from his cage to my shoulder, but NO hands. Then after some time I could pet him just like any hand-tamed baby. I was so pround And so devastated when he died last year. I am talking now with a woman who has B&G. She is her 2nd owner of 5-6 years she said. She says Casey doesn't like people probably because she was bonded to her last owner with no socialization. I think that may be part, but not all of the trouble. The bird is now living at her grandparent's. She says she will step up if you bribe her with a peanut. My question is, do you have any tip for me about resocialization? I've heard once they get unpredictable they never come back... I don't believe this. Not since I had so much success with my wild-caught. Any suggestions about the steps to go in, food the best way?...anything ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
hi marci.
I'm sorry about taking so long but my computer died.
so I'm useing a friends so things take alittle longer.

you have a long road ahead of you. but you did it once you can do it a again.
truth is the big thing here and time. take steps like you have just adopated a child. he does'nt know you and your really don't know him. give him space. let him get to know his new area.talk to him let him know everything will be ok.
give him treats. start slow with people 1st you and new area only.then slowly bring one people in. don't over crowd
him. time time
take care Barbara
I'm very sorry about takeing so long
