Question
i have a male african gray, i was told that he is around 12 years old and that its reached sexual maturity. ive been looking for a female for him. my question is will they bond if i find a female about his age and will they mate and have babies at this age since i dont know what age they stop mating.

Answer
Was your intent of the bird to be a breeding bird or is he a pet? If he is a pet, do NOT start breeding him. He will most likely be aggressive towards the female and will not bond to you (you wont be able to play with him). Just because a bird is sexually mature does NOT mean it needs to breed. He may not be healthy enough to breed, anyways. If you want to breed him, take him to the vet and have blood work done and a full physical. This will tell you if he has any genetic defects that will be passed to offspring, and will also show up any diseases he may have. You will also need to learn to hand feed birds which you CAN NOT learn from a book or the internet. It has to be real, physical practice.
Get this done before considering a female, and keep in mind that if he starts breeding, you will lose the pet bird you had, and will end up with a wild untame bird.
